Back with Ice Cream

Hey Guys, I don't know if anyone is paying attention to this blog anymore, but I feel like updating again, not gonna bore you with why I've been gone, no reason to.

Heres a very quirky band with an incredibly different sound.  Very original and strange, I love these guys.

If you Like it, try Atlas, another of theirs.

I don't even know

I found this song randomly whilst searching for Boards of Canada music on myspace.  It is labeled as "Oscar See Through Red Eye", but it very obviously is not.  As far as I can tell this isn't even one of BOC's tracks.

This song is fantastic and calming, One of my favorite tracks of all time and I don't even know anything about it.

Who Wants Cake?

I'm sure most of you have heard of Venetian Snares, and his outrageous spazztastic music, but you might not know about his recently released album.  Included is this absolutely ridiculous song about cake, which I verily enjoyed.
If you like it (you weirdo), check out the full album.

Infinite Scale

Very minimal post for a very minimal tune.

For Japan

After the devastation in Japan, hundreds of artists, labels and individuals came together to support and raise money for the relief effort. It’s humbling to see things like this happen, especially when it’s artists that I have come to love and respect for other reasons, and who then go the extra step to help those unfortunate enough to be affected by such disasters.

Several compilations have stood out for me, number one being the momentous effort from Keith Kenniff (aka Helios) and his wife, Hollie. Their compilation, ‘For Nihon’, is probably the best line up ever.  It’d be hard to talk about this compilation in its entirety because of the crazy amount of artists, so here’s just a few words which will hopefully help paint the picture. I’ve also included a few other great compilations set up specifically for Japan’s relief efforts.

For Nihon
The artists involved and the quality of the music is second to none. Ulrich brings in the shoegaze for this instrumental approach to Ulrich’s sound with more emphasis on the guitars. Rhian Sheehan and ambient veteran Biosphere contributes with a typically stripped back but hugely engrossing ambient number.Jon Hopkins treats us to one of his more ambient/soundtrack styled productions, but still manages to give it an edge.

You can purchase the compilation over on the Unseen website for a donation of $20, with all proceeds going towards the Japan Earthquake Relief Fund.  Check here for the full tracklist.

A Collection Box
If you enjoyed aus’ and Ametsub’s contributions to ‘For Nihon’, then you can also download their dedicated EP set up to support the Japanese Red Cross. They’ve put together a six track release which comes straight from the heart of three of Japan’s best loved experimental producers. Only Light To Clear Away
Compiled between June 2010 and January 2011 ‘Only Light To Clear Away’ is now committed to donating all proceeds to the Japanese Red Cross.  Specta Ciera has contributed, and we’re also lucky enough to see tracks from Loscil and Sons of Magdalene.

Pale Blue Beats

Recently released by Milieu on his 2011 Sampler disk, Pale Blue Beats was my favorite track on the sampler by far.  Its very bouncy and dreamy, a perfect chillout tune.

Doss-House

Crafting the sound of childhood dreams has long been Doss-House’s mission. For nearly a decade Alexis Richard has been creating a sound that’s the perfect balance of sweet melody and precision beats.   Despite having quality tunes for free, he is quite unknown.  His music is purely IDM, with erratic beats and dreamy synths.  You might like him you might not.

Have a listen to my favorite of his:

I found his albums whilst scrounging the internet for links.  Most of them are down, but If you ask him on his Last.fm profile, he will gladly provide a link.

Baths

An original artist indeed, Will Wiesenfeld strings together electronic music with semblance of glitch and ambient. It works really well for the most part, although some of the synths he uses are just plain annoying.

This song is just so catchy, Id be surprised if you only played it once.  Make sure you listen till 00:25 where the actual music starts, the opening is rather strange and noisy.

He only has a single full release to date as well as a small EP, so if you like this song check out Cerulean, as well as his myspace.

Boris Heizmann

Aptly released on the netlabel ‘Wavelike’, this stand out track from Boris Heizmann’s ‘Symmetry Breaking’ EP is a nautical onslaught of warm techno.

The rest of the EP isn’t bad if you’re a fan of the harder stuff, but this track is by far the best of the four.  For more info on this release and the rest of the Wavelike netlabel, check Wavelike.net.

FUR/Drexon Field

Now I was not a big fan of either of these artists music, in fact I was rather unimpressed with most of their work.
Although this track absolutely dazzled me, maybe it was the upbeat melodies, or the strong electronic build.  Either way I felt this specific track deserved a post, it is absolutely fantastic.

If you want, you can download a few FUR and Drexon fields albums for free here, as well as some other free IDM albums I have yet to sift through.  Have a look if you are feeling adventurous.

Tripswitch

I just recently came across him and have been listening to his albums all week. Hes absolutely fantastic.

His album Circuit Breaker, released back in 2005, is a must for any downbeat listener. He just released a nice album last year, but if you are yet to come across this little gem, then you will be glad I shared it.

Tripswitch just released a few remixes of his track "Stereogram", one done by Solar Fields, and the other by his more upbeat alias Codemonkey, as well as Luke Chable and Aurtas.

Have a listen to one of Tripswitch’s best.

Or check out the more recognisable ‘Roll your own'.

I apologize for posting a youtube video as I'm aware of the quality, but I felt the video went quite well with it.

Check out this amazing artist here.

This track is my absolute favorite.

Digitonal

I'm in a piano mood this week so heres another nice IDM artist who uses a lot of calming piano and minimal electronic beats.

Aus

Aus is an experimental video score, ambient breaks and sound artist from Tokyo, Japan.  Timid in his ways and gentle in his productions, his surreal recordings and hypnotic piano create a world of wonder.

Ronald Jenkees

A very unique style of IDM.  Ronald Jenkees is a fairly new artist that managed to create a sound not everyone has heard before, really nice electronic works and instrumental pieces.

Orange Dust

Funky IDM artist.  Really great tunes.  Stopped making music a while ago because fans wanted him to make money off of it and he didn't.  He actually explains in in this song.

Orange Dust - Turn Off Unplug by Midboss

All of his stuff is free, you just gotta find it.  You can find some stuff on his soundcloud.
